Those who admire wonderful landscapes - and there are many who do - will quickly recognise that in Swaledale you have some of the finest and most stunning scenery the Yorkshire Dales can offer.A narrow Dale (valley) with steep sided slopes leading to high fell tops, heather clad and ablaze with colour in summer, there is a magical dimension to Swaledale, decorated by its miles of drystone walls, many climbing up improbable angles and then disappearing into the clouds and its outstanding array of stone barns, scattered here and everywhere and a monument to an earlier age of farming although some are still in use today.Yes it is out of this world.

There are walks abound in every direction, along the banks of the rivers and the tumbling mountain streams that seem to be everywhere (including of course the River Swale) and over the moorland tops where if the panoramic views do not take your breath away, the wind certainly will.An unforgettable drive at any time of the years takes you up Swaledale from Reeth, its main settlement, through a string of attractive character villages and smaller communities to Keld, which is at the top of the Dale, returning over the famous Buttertups Pass (the road here rises to 1600 feet) to Hawes and down beautiful Wemsleydale.

Gunnerside is a fine example of a traditional stone built Swaledale village.Dwarfed by the high fells that surround it - and protect it - from the sometimes very wild winter weather, it stands astride the Dale road and is dissected by the fast flowing Gunnerside Gill.A walk along the banks of the Gill takes you through walled pastures and thickets and eventually to the fell top: all along the path there remains extensive evidence of the old lead mines that brought fortune to Swaledale for 300 years until they closed around the turn of the 20 century.Gunnerside"s cottages and houses are tightly hemmed in together, this one of its many charms, along with a pub, a tea room/restaurant, and a daily bus service on which a ride up or down the Dale is a must.

CROFT COTTAGE faces south and enjoys a very sunny position. It features warm comfortable accommodation, with an old range housing an open fire and storage heater to keep you warm and cosy. All electricity and coal are included in the rent.

Front door to open plan lounge/diner/kitchen.Lounge with open fire, sette and easy chair, colour TV with sky free stat box, DVD player and radio, dining table and chairs.Kitchen with cupboards, work surface, electric cooker, microwave and fridge.Downstairs shower room with shower cubicle, toilet and washbasin.A spiral staircase (not suitable for the very young or elderly) leads to bedroom with a double and single bed.OUTSIDE: safe parking directly outside. A small paved area enjoying all day sun. There is safe lockable storage for bikes.
